Hi all,

The starter motor on my camper has failed, i looked in Wiki for starter motor but Wiki covers petrol engines only. I removed the 2 bolts easy enough but i can not get the starter past the clutch slave bracket. Can any one help out with this. I am going to Scotland this Saturday trying not to panic.

The rigid pipe that goes betweeen the flexi hose and the slave cylinder is held by a bracket bolted to the side of the gearbox. If you undo the bolt at the "flexi" end of the bracket, the bracket and slave cylinder can be rotated forward a little, and this will give just enough clearance to remove the starter.

Many a time I've wondered at this masterpiece of teutonic design!

When you replace the starter you MUST use a large cable tie to secure the two cables against the side of the starter solenoid, or the connection stud on the end of the solenoid will quickly break because of the vibrations.

Thanks again for your advice re starter motor, can,t say it was a simple task to remove the blighter but I did it, dreadful design, just got to get the new one in, fingers crossed , the Scottish jolly is still on....
