Estimated time of death?

The buzzer of doom is sounding an imminent death for my 2.1 wbx. It is an engine oil pressure problem as opposed to electrical. It is on about 40% of the time with a warm engine and the low oil light is flickering on idle. How long should I expect to get before it goes bang, bearing in mind I am driving cautiously (not over reving or labouring). I know its coming and I am sure it will happen in the most inapropriate place. The buzzer has sounded for so long today on a 100 mile round trip that this also sounds like its about to die!
I found the best way to drive today was with the blaupunkt mono system flat out.
Anyone out there had a long engine life with low oil pressure?
I doubt it.

shall we have a seepstake? light should come on full, no dimly lit as the switch is either on or of, digital not analog. if it is coming on dimly then suspect electrics damp in the dash pod and/or coroded contacts are a good starting point. the main conector, big rectangular thing that connects to the circuit board in the dash pop it off and use a scouring pad to clean up whats there, bad earths can also be a culprit check behind the fusebox where there is a crown of spade terminals get some emery paper on them (remove apdes first!) earth strap from battery check both ends clean em up good. 2.1 engine check the bundle of wires that go from the engine block the the left hand side of the engine bay, Oh and the gear box has one too. OR before you do all of that get a oil pressure check.

just seen it was you pete sure you knew all that already :)

Has it had a pressure check?

Why keep driving it if its known to be low on pressure?? if it throws a leg out (they usually do) then the case and crank will be fubarred... no use to man nor beast...
and guaranteed it will do it just when you dont want it too.......

Its my only working vehicle large enough to carry all my tools and generator etc! I have just ordered a load of parts from smallcar in the states to transplant a subaru engine, so I am hoping this holds out until then :)

Shame to lose another 2.1 case, cvrank and rods.. is it actually knocking Pete? Mine wasn't,

but if it starts to slow up a bit, lose power, you've got a second or two

maybe :D

pete i ran mine for over a thousand miles with bugger all oil pressure, i wimped out and changed it before it went bang though. I'd wire the sender high to stop the buzzer if I knew the pressure was low though for peace in the cab. I have a pressure tester that will go on a wbx if you need to borrow it.
