Hi

We have a 1981 CU engined Autohomes camper. It has a RM122 Electrolux fridge. We use it quite regularly as a day van but also for longer camping trips. As a day van we rarely (if ever?) use the fridge.

If I put an isolation switch for the fridge to cut the 12V supply when the ignition is on, would it make any perceptible difference to performance or mpg? Or is it good to run the fridge on a regular basis?

Just switch it off on the fridge is the obvious answer! That's what the switches are for.
Yes , it is good to run them occasionally, same with Propex, Eberspächer and Webasto heaters.

My fridge does not seem to have a switch on it? Am I missing the bleeding obvious? (probably!)

It would be if they had switches to switch them off.

Mike you will have to put a switch in line but it would not really make much difference to the fuel consumption but it will make the fridge element last longer.

Just read the manual for that model - you're right , no switch. It says to install one when fitting fridge. Someone must have forgotten or you have a switch that you don't know about elsewhere - like on a Zig unit.

So, looking at a RM122 manual it does state that an isolation switch should be installed (for safety reasons). I have recently traced the wiring to the fridge and not found a switch anywhere (hence my original question!). (I had recently taken the fridge out to get it working again which I successfully achieved!)

The manual states it has a 75W heater - which equates to about 0.1hp (if it is this simple?) - so I suspect it would not make too much difference to performance/mpg. Might just fit the switch anyway if Electrolux have recommended it?
