I still havnt quite got the hang of these forums yet, but here goes.
Can anyone suggest what type of Sealants I should be using on 1.9 wbx part engine rebuild,
i.e. on the top and bottom liner o rings, steel head to liner gasket, rubber head to block gasket and underneath cylinder head domed nuts. VW listed sealants seem expensive - what alternatives are available.
Thanks in anticipation dec

If you buy a gasket set from a reputable place it comes with all sealants you need.

Brickwerks offer just that.
Otherwise buy from VW.

You don't want to be redoing this in a hurry.

Elring is OEM

(1) o ring seal bottom of cylinder liner to block....... nothing, but make sure surfaces are spotlessly clean
(2) o ring seal top of cylinder liner to head........ nothing, but make sure surfaces are spotlessly clean
(3) head gasket to top of liner.........nothing, but make sure surfaces are spotlessly clean
(4) rubber gasket between head and block.....Dirko S is the correct stuff, comes with Elring gasket set, use it both sides, degrease with meths.
(5) Beneath cylinder head nuts.... Dirko yellow is the correct stuff, comes with Elring gasket set, makes sure surfaces are clean and degreased with meths

Victor Reinz kits come with no sealant ( so I read from a reputable person on here), a bit cheaper but by the time you purchased the sealant it's not.

Elring full gasket set is 356362, search that number on ebay with the word Elring , you can buy each side but cheaper to buy the full kit

If you already bought the gaskets

Search Dirko s on ebay

not true, it depends on the kit
