...how would one go about fitting this ?

Light or LED can pretty much go anywhere on the dash

What would one need ?

Keeping it simple my thoughts are go straight to where the fan is and wire from there so as to avoid messing up the non cut wiring at the fuse box

I d have thought you could just bridge into the wire on the fan sensor - wouldn't tell you it's running but would tell you it's meant to be running. One wire on the non live side of the switch to led to earth

As said this will not tell you the fan is working. You should be able to hear/feel it running. If you can't and the temperature needle continues to go up, I suggest that you pull up, switch off and let the engine cool down.

The fan is working as it should no problem with it at all just be nice to have a light coming on as and when it comes on hills/traffic etc as being slightly deaf in one ear or whilst driving up hill I won't always hear it

Simple wiring guide would be fab

More fun would be to patch into the warning light with an led multi-colour strip across the dash. Be even more fun in pitch black!

You just connect the light to the live input to the fan.
You cant use an LED it would be on all the time when the vehicle is moving as the fan windmills and acts as a generator even a normal bulb will glow a bit.

Drop the spare wheel connect one side (I presume it won't matter which side) to the positive wire for the fan (what colour is that likely to be ?) and the other to any earth point ? run cable through to dash it should in theory light when the fan kicks in ? I can test this by manually setting off the fan with a paper clip.

Does this all sound feasible ?

To add the fan is 2 speed so which colour wire would I use ?

Or just add 2 lights !

Do I need to put use an inline fuse in as well ?

In years to come, there's going to be a post asking (from a new owner), "what do these wires do?" And none of us will remember...

Two lights would give you twice as much to look at.
Twice as much fun.

If you were really O.C.D., then you could do this for nearly any of your sensors and switches.
It would be like Blackpool Illuminations.

Regarding fuses -
As they are only minimal wattage, then you should not need to put any inline fuses into the circuit.

That must be what all those un-used locations are between the dash dials.

Cant one of you put me out of my misery and tell me which one of the two wires it is directly from the fan 1st speed setting or is this thread going to take 3 pages...

Its not the BROWN one even I know that

Looking at this diagram its the RED wire for 1st stage and BLACK RED for 2nd stage correct ?

I love this warning idea.

Suggestions -

1) Big red flashing light on top of clocks if there are high winds
2) A pulsing green light if it detects one of your passengers is in danger of honking up (gives you time to pull over and throw them out the sliding door)
3) An audible and very loud warning that goes off (ideally) randomly and no visible means to turn it off.
