Keep cutting out (when engine actually starts)

Hoping for some clues as I have none. MOT booked in for tomorrow and looks unlikely I will be able to get there.
Engine has cut out a couple of times today whilst merrily travelling at speed and then struggled to get started again. Can't start now although it's turning over (thankfully I'm on the drive at home at the moment).
Any ideas for suggestions would be very much appreciated.
