Hi Campers. My old joker has turned up an unusual issue. Something has been clicking annoyingly (like a relay). I eventually dug out an old alarm behind the glove box. The blue box (see pic) is doing the clicking every time I start the car or power enters the system eg when attaching the main battery. I disconnected the blue box but there was some sort of an alarm went off (a sort of buzzing somewhere near the fuse box). Then the van wouldn't start - turned over but wouldn't start. I disconnected the battery and connected it again hoping this would reset the system and now, if I disconnect the blue box, the engine won't even turn over. If I leave it connected, everything works but I still have the annoying clicking. I think I would like to keep the system in that if I take the blue box with me - no-one is going to nick the van - but does anyone know what the clicking is or how to stop it. (There is a keyhole by the drivers door which I suspect is probably the original switch for the alarm. I don't have a key).

Any suggestions?

Perhaps someone could identify the alarm system - I can't find any info on it!

I would guess if you have no controller for it you're going to need to remove it and rewire.

I doubt Hella can help. They've moved on somewhat.

Personally I don't think its worth investigating beyond removal. There are simpler ways to disable a vehicle and who takes any notice of a car alarm. May be a bit of history though.

Old alarms and immobilizers are nothing but grief.
Lazerline are the worst IME.
Bin it and get modern security.

But how can I remove it? Most of the wiring is hidden behind the dashboard. How is the device cutting out the ignition?

Well, without a diagram for alarm, all you can do is uhook it wire by wire. Use the manual to understand how the ignition switch and fusebox should be connected and see whats missing. Unfortunately theres no quick way to do it. If there was, it would be easy for car thieves.

I managed this OK. (If anyone has a similar problem then msg me - too unique a job to bother writing out the solution).

However, another upside from this - the van doesn't keep draining the battery in a week just sitting as it has done since I bought it!
