Dec,
Just the same as you have posted here really.
Click on the tech area, click on the right heading, Mech, Elect etc and then click new topic, then enter your query.

:ok

Gasket sealants.

I,ve got the engine out ( 1989 1.9 wbx) stripped the head, pistons and liners, now ready to rebuild,

Can anybody suggest a suitable sealant (or maybe more than one
type)for the following;

(1) o ring seal bottom of cylinder liner to block
(2) o ring seal top of cylinder liner to head
(3) head gasket to top of liner
(4) rubber gasket between head and block
(5) Beneath cylinder head nuts

I understand VW have a parts listing for various sealants but it seems a bit expensive --- any alternatives !

If you buy a gasket set from a reputable place it comes with all sealants you need.

I would be using OEM parts and sealant.
I should think you don't want to be doing this again

WHS ^^^^ Elring is OEM

(1) o ring seal bottom of cylinder liner to block....... nothing, but make sure surfaces are spotlessly clean
(2) o ring seal top of cylinder liner to head........ nothing, but make sure surfaces are spotlessly clean
(3) head gasket to top of liner.........nothing, but make sure surfaces are spotlessly clean
(4) rubber gasket between head and block.....Dirko S is the correct stuff, comes with Elring gasket set, use it both sides, degrease with meths.
(5) Beneath cylinder head nuts.... Dirko yellow is the correct stuff, comes with Elring gasket set, makes sure surfaces are clean and degreased with meths

Victor Reinz kits come with no sealant ( so I read from a reputable person on here), a bit cheaper but by the time you purchased the sealant it's not.

Elring full gasket set is 356362, search that number on ebay with the word Elring , you can buy each side but cheaper to buy the full kit
