Hello all,

We have a t25 VW (1981), it is a type 4 engine 1600 ct, petrol, air-cooled.
It has over-heated, it is very complicated to fix because the gasket in the head cover keeps breaking, so the oil leaks, loads of white smoke comes out of everywhere and I lose power whilst driving.
So I'm wondering if I should change the engine completely or if I should change gaskets in cylinder+head cover?
But if I change gaskets, the exhaust will fall apart...

If anyone has any idea what is the best? And of course if anyone has a cheap exhaust/gaskets or a cheap engine?
Please say :-)

If it is a 1600CT it not a type 4 engine it is based on the type 1 engine.
I think you mean the rocker cover gasket, they will leak if they are not fitted correctly or the rocker cover is distorted or the spring clips have lost there tension, oil will then leak on the exhaust causing smoke.
If it is overheating there more likely will be a fault with the cooling system, most of the time the engine is overcooled best to find out what the real cause is first.
How do know it is overheating?
