Think this needs a clean before I can see what's going on but any advice would be much appreciated.

About as clean as I can get it before getting on with the day's tasks, I've got no experience or idea how this is supposed to be secured, and can't make it out, the only thing I can see is the nylon piece has slipped on the pin.

Done what I could before it got dark, got it all connected back up,

Looks like the bush has come out the shift rod and allowed the rod to drop off the selector ball.
This should be in the shift rod.
