Hi all,

I grinded the steels back last year and stuck some hammeright on them as a temporary measure for a tenner. Now she has a fresh MOT on her i can start to upgrade.. and the rims are already starting to rust/mark and i'm not convined with alloys, i like the old school look.

Is there any point and do people restore their steels? Does it cost much to send away and get them coated? Do i ebay some new?

Any idea's?

Cheers

I did mine with a bit of wet&dry and a couple of rattle cans - still good after 3 years.

Get them shot blasted, about a tenner each. Saves an awful lot of elbow grease. Forget smoothrite and those similar products as they leave brush marks no matter how meticulous you are. Stick with Rustoleum as the finish is free of any brush marks and is a rust inhibitor.

I just give mine an annual touchup with a rattle can. By and large, whatever coating is used, they still deteriorate. Considered having them coated but couldn't warrant the expense if one spray can does all four in about ten minutes. If you don't use hubcaps (I don't) just slap some wheel nut covers on - really spruces them up.
