The red light came on while out on a long run last Monday. I had a quick look at the reservoir behind the dash and noted that although the level was visible it was at a low point so guessed that was the problem. I didn't have any fluid at the time but yesterday I filled it up but the light is still on. When I apply the handbrake the light intensity changes so I am guessing that the handbrake switch is working so does that light warn of anything else?

E D I T: forgot to say that driving on Tuesday for a short distance the light was out (unless the handbrake was on) so it's not permanently on.

have you checked your brake lights are working paul ? when my light came on it was because the sensors ( I have 2 but mines an early van ) had packed up , I had one on the master cylinder and one just behind the dash .

I'm pretty sure the warning light is not triggered by a faulty brake switch.
The warning light comes on when the fluid level is low, float switch in the reservoir or the handbrake is on.
Try removing the connector to the float switch.
The handbrake is a simple switch (similar to a curtsey door light switch) the switch is under the handbrake.
I suspect the handbrake switch has been knocked or fouled by something conductive.

Hello my van has the exat same problem and never been able to figure it out. i will try and disconnect the float switch as i have checked the handbrake switch and it is ok. If i get any joy i will let you know.
