I'm finally getting round to sort out a fridge/cooler...One of these looks appealing http://www.worldofcamping.co.uk/dometic ... ridge-4017 but can't work out if I will need to cut vents if running on gas?

Thanks

Hi

Found this

http://www.dometicapproved.co.uk/page.a ... Absorption" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The user manual does not make ay reference to installing with vents - which surprised me.

Hope it helps anyway!

Mike

Thanks for that. That is surprising. From doing research online it seems the general practice is to install vents, or run them on gas in the awning...

I'm leaning towards a weaco coolFreeze CF40 now as they are so effcient on 12v, which means I don't even need to worry about gas and vents. Crazy money though!! Time for Mr Credit card I think ;)

Those 3 way coolers must NOT be run on gas inside a van as they will merrily pump CO fumes into the interior. They must only be used outside when on gas. Warning at the bottom of page 2 of the manual. Hope this helps.

As above:

Attention!
Your portable Refrigerator - in gas operation - must only be used in a well-ventilated
place, above ground, where it is protected from rain or water splashes.
In electrical operation, the appliance can be used in an enclosed area. However
the appliance must still be protected from moisture.
The unit must not be used with gas operation in motor vehicles and boats
whilest the vehicle or boat is in motion!
Operation using liquid gas in enclosed spaces in not permitted!
THIS COOLING UNIT MAY ONLY BE USED WITH GAS OUT OF DOORS!

Or go for a built in 3 way, dometic 1 series or 4 series new. You will need to fit proper vents/flue through side of van and a gas drop out hole.

There isn't just Waeco. Try Vitro Frigo

Under an awning is fine, cos that is out in the open air. People tend to call tents that attach to vans 'awnings' (don't know how that came about). You don't operate gas inside one of them or you die.
Vents are needed to allow hot air/moisture to escape from the heating elements at the rear. Nothing to do with gas/electrical choice of options!
