Hi

1982 Devon - Dark Brown bottom half and Cream top !

Taking the plunge (and admitting my limitations) by resolving to hand my van to a body repair shop for a couple of rear wheel arches - and treating the few other scabs and rashes.

I completely understand its gonna be very ball park but what sort of price will I be paying for ...

x2 rear wheel arches / treat a some seam rash - maybe also a top alf respray (pop top and the cream bit round the windows and top half of tailgate ?

Just to give me a rough idea so I dont faint when I am in the shop - I appreciate you cant really know without seeing

Thanks in advance for any guide prices

Best

In't South if you're not doing it all yourself, prices start at about £3K and increase as they discover more rot under the paint!

And if you are given a completion date don't expect it done for then.

bit of a can of worms, what ever price they give you double it,also do ya homework try and get pics of work they have done and perhaps a bit of good feedback from happy customers,or youll possibly be back on here asking for advice on how to get your money back because of bad workman ship.hope all goes well....

To get a price you need to give us more details. i.e. pictures. Get clear pictures of the areas you want treated.

Im having mine done at the minute. Both Restoman and MM on here have been a lot of help when I was deciding the extent to get repairs done.

Thanks for replies everyone - very helpful.

The person doing the work will be a close friend of the family who has been in autospray business for many years and I know his work is of a very high standard and has been featured in different marque classic car mags (inc a volks world centre page feature splitty a few years ago and an e type restoration ) - so I'm confident of a good job and though he won't lose money (wouldn't expect him to) - I know he won't overcharge me either.

Looking forward to a shiny rash free van (dreading the cost tho !!!)

Best

hi Matt What did it set you back. I need a bit of work done above wheel arches.

Hi

Its a family friend of mine who did it.... so he definitely didn't charge me what he would ordinarily cost.

he has spent x3 full days (9am-5pm) with me "helping" on all days and the going rate I believe is about £40 per hour> and he's fettled lots of digs and dents too. He is a perfectionist and I'm amazed at how much time he spent on smallest detail. He has been doing this for nearly 40 years - has his own business so he's very experienced and knows what he's doing.

Fitted a repair arch and side 1/4 panel - banged out parking scuffs and made good the other.

Cost... £500 with me buying the colour (x2 pack 1 ltr @ £40 a ltr). thats both sides of the van prepped and painted below window line

Hope that helps

Matt

Cheers Matt. Getting engine fixed again in next couple of weeks. It's then a toss up as to whether I keep or sell. If I keep I'll want to sort that bit of rust and will pm you then for your mates garage details.
