Hi all I've just bought a Devon pop top and I'm hoping to fit in next weekend, however I've had a look on wiki and have only found pictures. Is there anyone close to Manchester that fits them or can help me fit it? I think is going to be a little hard to do it on my own!! Thanks in advance Sarah

Dealing with struts may be the biggest problem. When replacing some expanding struts I recall I compressed them and tied them closed and snipping the string when appropriate. . Also I seem to remember making a Spanish Windlass to compress them. Sorry cannot be more explicit but it was a long time ago. but these tips may help.
A Spanish Windlass is a length of rope doubled and then twisted in the middle with a stick to shorten it.

So are you replacing a previous pop top or are you converting a tin-top?

There will need to be plenty of cutting and then reinforcing to do before you fit the roof. There are one or two traders on here that could do the work.

I helped fit one a few years ago.
If you have the fibreglass surround that the bed boards fit into there is no need for re enforcing.
You cut the hole to allow for some metal to be bent up 90 deg and then screw or rivet the surround on, you should
not remove any of the strengthening bars only the outer roof metal.
The top part of the roof with hinges and catches is the fun part might take a bit of working out.
If your unsure wait until someone can give you some help.
Have fun.
