Quick question or 2!

Can I change the oil pressure relief valve without changing the oil?

Also it seems to have a very large screwdriver type slot. Can this be undone with a normal screwdriver by hand and if so when doing back up how can i set the torque without a socket and just a screwdriver?

Oil will pour out so best drain it first, you can pour it back in after.
large screwdriver yes with spanner on handle or a piece of sheet metal shaped and a spanner if it's tight.
just do it up tight and check it later, its spring loaded so should not rattle loose.

why are you changing it?

Impact driver and the widest flat bit you can get into the slot. You will need a new copper sealing washer too.

Still trying to resolve a flickering oil light on tick over once engine has been run for 10 miles or so. Having changed switch, oil and filter.

Will need to get a pressure tester I guess.

Yep get a pressure tester an 84 has just the one switch, its whats happening at higher revs thats possibly more important.

I got this one, then I put a permanent one in the cab to monitor because mine is a bit low. Need to get the oil to 85 deg which is roughly 10 mins after the thermostat opens so maybe half hour of idle, then readings at idle, 2000, 3000 and 4000 rpm

have you tried 2050 mineral oil?

after that and pressure valve spring and plunger the next thing is an oil pump and cover change, oil pump gaskets are all too thick so may need to make your own thin one.
