Guess I need a new radiator

After a small drive yesteday I noticed a small puddle of water at the front of the van , so I took off the two front grills. I was hoping the bleed screw had come loose - but no :(

Im guessing as its leaking from the top - that rules out any of the connecting pipes and is basically a new radiator? I'll probabaly have a go at it myself.

Brickworks do a radiator where they says its slightly thicker - would I have any issues getting this one?

Thanks in advance.

If you're not having overheating probs, a standard rad will be fine. Mine barely gets out of the cold section unless I'm stuck in traffic and even then it never gets to halfway.

So I've tried to take my radiator out - and have got an issue.

The bolts that hold the bracket at the bottom of the radiator - some are turning and not releasing :x

Taking off the bumper I can see inside using a torch , but there isn't a lot of access to really do anything. Anyone got any bright ideas for a novice?

I've also got to put these bolts back when my new rad comes.

Have you checked to see if the thermostat is actually closing, and it's up to the right temp? Might just be that somebody's put the wrong temp sensor in it, or the wiring's corroded and giving higher resistance (lower reading) than it should be.

Anything wrong with making some holes behind the bumper? There are already a few there - just they are pretty small.

You don't need to modify anything to make it keep cool. You just need to make sure it's all working properly.

Sorry Adrian, Im not understanding.

Im having trouble removing the radiator from the van. The bolts that hold the radiators bottom bracket in place are giving my grief.

I cant access the behind of these bolts so looking for advice.

I had this problem, the j nuts on the back go rusty. It's quickest and easiest to just cut/grind the heads off the 4 bolts and get new stainless bolts and j nuts. Try item number 221725234587 on ebay for the j nuts. And 4 M8 x 30mm bolts. The whole lot should be about £8 at most.
Hope that helps.
Best Regards James

Thanks for the reply James, much appreciated.

How did you get access to the back of the bolt to put the J nuts on?

Once you've cut the old bolt heads off and removed the radiator support brackets you can fit the j-nuts from the rear, they simply slide into place, then you offer up the bracket and then insert the new bolts. It'll make more sense once you have the brackets off. Any more help just ask :ok

Once I grinded the bolts off and got the brackets off , things started to make a lot more sense!

All seems to have gone well - thanks for your help. Now its time for the MOT.
