Hi all, just joined tonight!
Today (as with most sundays for the last month or so) I tried to get my T25 to run smoothly... It starts ok (now I've learned what it likes) but will not drive as it doesn't have the power to move! It revs ok, albeit a tiny bit spluttery, but put it in gear and try to drive and you have to rev it hard with loads of clutch slipping to move a few feet. I attempted to check the timing with a strobe (which turned out not to be working) and hey presto when I started it I could instantly tell it was so much better! I to-and-fro'd once or twice to manouvre off the drive for a test run and it just flipped back to rough running & no power again...! Any ideas?? Thanks in advance for any help.

My first thought when you said rough running with no power was a dodgy HT lead.
Or HT leads that were connected to the wrong cylinders.
If connecting a strobe improved the situation (however briefly) then Id be looking at the HT leads.
Have you tried looking in the dark? sometimes you can see them arcing to the engine.

Which engine is it ?

My guess: Lack of fuel OR in your case I'm going to go for rocker / push rod adjustment required for the hydraulic tappers. Distance between rocker and push rod should be 1.5 turns on adjuster once rocker stops rocking.

Thanks for the tips all. tonytech, I didn't do anything with the strobe as it didn't work, think it was just coincidence, but will try new leads etc.
I believe it's the DG engine. DoubleOSeven, I thought you can't adjust hyrauliuc tappets?
When it's running rough (all the time) it sounds very tappety, but the couple of minutes it decided all by itself to run ok it sounded MUCH quieter.

I'm also a bit baffled by the carb...With the air inlet removed from the top of the carb, when you open the throttle, what I'm assuming is the choke mechanism sticks and it'll rev high but you can flick it off with your finger and obviously the revs drop, is this how it's meant to be? Thing is this choke bit doesn't stick all the time so I don't know what's right and what isn't.

Well I've figured out the intermittent sticky choke. Stripped the carb and found a little plastic piece connected to the choke air flap was broken, hence the flap never closing and the broken platic part and the arm operating it kept jamming intermittently. Stick it all back on tomorrow, all cleaned out. Will no doubt help the cold starting but not too optimistic about the general rough running....
