2nd engine cooling pump

On my 1.6td engine there is still the cable for the electric water pump that is supposed to be there, I believe to carry on cooling the engine after its been turned of. I have had the van now for over 10 years and it has ran with out it but I am now replacing the engine as I had a coolant leak and over cooked the engine when I ran out. Is it recommended to refit this original part. Presumably I would need new coolant pipe, and motor etc anything else or should I not bother?

It circulates the coolant above a preset temperature through the turbo and backto the radiator,it's for extra cooling even when the engine is switched off,a lot of vw cars have it now

You should fit it. Aas Tim says, it circulates coolant through the turbo to prevent damage to it through excess localised heat when the engine is switched off

Small point on the jx engine water dosent flow through the turbo..104 deg c [early van] 107 deg c [late van] switch turns the auxiliary water pump on.
