Suspect this is one for Oldiebut goodie...
I have got a D1L kit complete but I am not a diesel man. No-one seems to want it for what it owes me, so does anyone know if its practical/possible to covert it to a B1L, if I can find the petrol parts or another unit?

I am aware that these early Ebers are now unsupported when it comes to spares.

The construction of the combustion chamber is different (and everything is pressed/welded together inside) so it won't be an easy job. Maybe if you change the biggest (and most expensive) part, the chamber then you can use it on petrol.

The easyest way to have a small tank for the diesel. Capacity of a few litres will not take a lot of space.

BTW on german ebay (and on local east european advertisement pages) diesel ones cost almost twice than petrol.

Highly unlikely that you will find a petrol combustion chamber/tube which is the relevant difference. As said the obvious thing to do is to fit a small diesel tank and run it that way. I run both mine that way as, although I am diesel, I run with waste vegetable oil which would soon clog them up. Do the D units have a lower rate of fuel consumption?
I dont want to be filling a diesel fuel tank mounted inside the bus though...
I also have a petrol Webasto from a multivan in stock but not had the time or inclination to work out the loom.

Not much difference in the fuel consumption although I haven't seen any consumption figures.
I can make up a loom for the several of the Webastos no trouble - what model?

BBW46 iirc. The loom had been crudely removed and unlabelled, but at least I have the correct T3 mounting bracket. No idea where it should go though. I suspect alongside the transmission cos its very dusty dirty.

Not one of the heaters that I normally work on - I am air heaters only. They are tied in with vehicle fans etc which would be a pain to do.
I have never liked the thought of putting one in our vans although they were an option - the vans' cooling systems being delicate enough on their own without the added strain of a water heater. Doubtlessly people have added them also but I feel that we may court disaster adding one.
They are getting a bit long in the tooth now also.

I think I have a D1L too, bought as working but the wiring loom was such a mess I've never managed to fathom how to sort it.

Is it worth fixing or should I just cut my losses and flog it for parts?

The wiring on them is easy to follow on the circuit diagram. Just be methodical working through it. If it is original it is just a case of tracing the colours to see if they are connected correctly.
