I've had my camper for about 7 1/2 years now. I've done various mechanical bits along the way including changing the engine.
However I haven't really done anything in the way of bodywork.
The camper was bought as a hobby and I hope to do as much as possible of the restoration work myself.

With a previous owner it has had a a spray over in a slightly different shade of white to original, and it has also had a load of filler slapped over the seems.

I'll be the first to admit I didn't really know what I was doing when I bought her, and the bodywork left a lot to be desired. I am looking forward to making some improvements.

She has a fresh MOT on her and I am happy with driving her, but this work finally needs doing.

These first few posts are to document the condition before any work.

That previous owner had some rare painting skills. Almost a match for my own. I like the "I bought this as a hobby" attitude - again, a good match for my own, so I'll be watching with interest.

Incidentally, is that a Reimo roof? It has the same catches as my Viking.

I'm ashamed to admit that spot of painting was me trying a spray can out that was obviously past it's best. It went on nicely then separated and ran.

Knowing that I'm redoing it all meant that I wasn't that bothered about it messing up.

It's a Bilbo conversion with a Bilbo roof.

Like I said, bought the camper as a hobby to learn how to do things. Certainly did that with the engine change. Went on a short welding night school course last year, so feeling brave enough to have a go.

I am in no rush to get this done, there is no deadline. I'll be doing little bit by little bit. My only aim is to keep her in the most part drive-able, I don't want her laid up for a month or two and to not be able to go away in her.

Indeed,good picks,this is just the kind of detail all sales vendors need to show onrequest,also prior to sending your van in fir work then detail repairs before its covered, this way everyone benefits and if when you sell you have provenance,

Seriously, best of luck with the resto, just do a bit at a time rather than tackling it all at once!
If you use a good epoxy primer like Jotun Jotamastic 87 or Lechler 29107 on the repairs as you go along, it'll seal them up and stop them rusting until you get the whole van done and painted.

The hubcaps came with it, real good quality, just need tidying up a little. I think they're off an old Rover. In fact they are the old reason I've not changed to 15" wheels.

Thanks for the tip about the primer. Are they brush-able or better sprayed? If best sprayed, do they require full breathing apparatus?

Best sprayed - a hvlp gun with a 2.0mm tip works well - it lays down flatter - brushing leaves brush strokes.
The Jotamastic stuff doesn''t require full breathing apparatus, just a 3m organic respirator would be ok -
The Lechler stuff has isocyanates so technically should require an air fed mask.
The Jotamastic stuff is cheaper as well, so that's what I'm using now on mine.
