3rd gear issues

hi, I've searched the topics here, and not found anything which sounds like the issue I'm having (apols if I've failed to find a previous post).
My 1985 4-speed 1900 petrol (DG) has suddenly developed a 3rd gear issue, where it's difficult to get out of 3rd gear when the van is moving, and it's almost impossible to get out of gear if the van is stationary (it seems to make no difference if the engine is running or not).
Can anyone advise on what the issue is likely to be, and the best way of resolving it, please?
