What sort of state is your bottom pully in? If its chewed the keyway the movement in the 'timing' can do the same, had exactly the same a few weeks back. Might be worth a look :ok

Hi,that bottom pulley you mentioned does look like it's wobbling about a bit while it's running, mechanic said he had to advance the timing to get it to run smoothly?

I would be looking at it closely then chap.

Depends what he meant by advance timing, if he set pump timing a tad more to advance it, all well and groovy.

As previous, spent a while on a T3 t'other week - smoking like a bar steward - almost as if petrol had been put in it by mistake.

Cam and pump timing set absolutely bob on, even compression tested it when injectors were out to swap a known good set in.

Wasnt until i tried to turn over engine on crankshaft bolt and thought the ring spanner had slipped off the bolt, did i realise the bolt was turning and the engine wasnt because it was so loose. :(

Not saying this is your problem, but remarkably similar to yours. Good luck chap :ok
