I've just received a complete stainless steel exhaust system from Germany & its the post 89 type whereas my van is an 87.

I haven't started changing it over yet but I can see the mount plates are welded in line with the silencer whilst the old ones sit at 90 degrees to it.

Is it straightforward to convert the old mounts to line up with the new exhaust?

Well I'm no diesel expert but I thought there were other differences...the main one being how the down pipe attaches to the silencer, early used a sleeve joint whilst later silencers use a 3 bolt flange (quite different).

Yes, you are correct, but as its a complete system it makes no difference how it joins together.

Its how the mounts fit thats bugging me, and as I will be putting a new core in the turbo at the same time as changing the exhaust I would like to know if I'm likely to hit any snags, so the van isn't off the road for more than the weekend.
