Hi all, as part of my on going resto it looks like I'm doing the rear outer suspension mounts.

Does anyone know what dimensions and hardness the bolts are before I cut them off? Also anywhere that may have them in stock. Cool Air sell a kit thats out of stock.

Rather than repeat whats already been written on the subject, please use search: "trailing arm bolts" - its all there.

Thanks Covkid, did use the search but for swing arm not trailing arm. Will use Google to search next time.

M12x1.50x110 this is a fine thread for this size.10.9 grade and coated. They are shanked bolts as well.

Some really good bolt stockists in Cov. I just bought locally. Couldn't bring myself to pay what some places were charging for a single bolt. Same with CV bolts - managed to buy a box of 50 for about £8

Yes.. very possible to buy bolts washers nuts grommets o rings split pins etc etc without VW tax..

You will have to buy over length bolts and cut them down otherwise there will be excess thread inside the bush sleeve.
I would estimate 130-140mm but all bolts (as opposed to all-threaded setscrews) have a standard amount of thread length, expressed as a number of diameters (D) e.g. M10 would have say 4D of threads so 40mm.
Not saying that it is definitely 4D though!

I just bit the bullet and got mine from Brickwerks.

Normally try to buy local, often cheaper and good quality. Didn't have the bolts though. Ordered from Brickwerks.

Got a really good little auto factor up the road. Got TRW guaranteed wheel cylinders, shoes and a mintex fitting kit next day at good price. Do good CV boots as well. Not those plastic things

As I always say, if you don't support local business, inevitably they are lost altogether. My local tool shop is incredible.

I know bods have different ways of doing jobs.

IMHO dont even waste a minute looking at your socket set to get the bolts out, unless theyve been done recently the bolts sieze into the sleeve inside the bush and are a nightmare to get out.

reciprocating saw slid up the inside of the trailing are mount - if youre feeling flush - tungsten blade , will have it done in minutes.

If you try cutting/grinding them off from the 'outside' of the mount, the bolts will hang up on the thickness of the mounting plate anyway.

Some bolts might come out, some wont, some bolts will be seized , some wont etc etc

I just dont bother anymore trying - tungsten carbide blade - all eight cuts dont in 10 minutes or so

Spot on when it comes to those bolts. I had to gas axe one out.

The sleeve inside the bush is also case hardened...

I've a pair of arms off a van, complete with bushes. Before setting too on removing them, thought us ask what's the simplest method. Cut one end off the bush and force the rest out through the arm?? Any other options? Cheers.
