Pierburg inlet pipe - can it be replaced?

Hi, I have had a look through the wiki and not found the answer(quite) to this question:
On the lifting the top of my Pierburg carburettor, (1.9 petrol, with gas conversion) I have noticed that the Black plastic fuel inlet pipe is melted somewhat! (The pipe I am referring to is the short black pipe about an inch long that hangs over the Venturi and choke butterfly)
I think the damage was probably done when it was backfiring a lot when trying to switch from running on gas to petrol. The question I have is can I just take that plastic pipe off, and replace it with a new one? Does it come off easily? And where do I get a new one as they do not seem to be advertised!
The second question is, Should it not be possible to find a new one or even a secondhand one anywhere, , if I just tidy it up with a dremel, so it is not so restricted as a result of the melted/burnt tip presumably fuel will still be drawn through it? So it should work.
Can it really be a simple as that? Surely not.
