Dim flickery dash lights??? Handy tip for ya

Does your van suffer from dim flickery dash lights that go out altogether at will??? Most often it's the dimmer wheel on the headlamp switch as the resistor wiper gets worn/dirty and makes a poor contact.
I've tried cleaning the contacts but the problem usually returns after a short while. Anyway I think I've solved it for good and thought I would share the wisdom!!!

Remove the thumbwheel from the switch and you will find that you can push the copper arm inside the switch across further than the thumbwheel ever does. This pushes the resistor arm further onto the contact at the 'bright' end of the resistor where it is more likely to make a good contact. It's your choice whether to replace the now redundant thumbwheel into the switch (I did so as not to leave a hole in the dash).
You should now have maximum brightness dash lights all the time which don't flicker or go out completely when they feel like it.

Those thumbwheels have been a pain on most of my dubs and lets face it who ever uses it to dim the dash???

Good tip.
The only time I ever used the thumbwheel dimmer was when caught speeding.... " Sorry officer, I didn't realise how fast I was going, My dash lights have 'Just' failed"

It worked :D
