500mA is half an amp so in my opinion is not going to do much for you when hooked up. It is more for keeping your radio code from draining your battery over winter.

Not enough amps mate, will take forever. You need a proper charger that does the leisure batt when you hook up. Or you could just buy a normal batt. charger and plug it into your internal 240V socket and connect to the battery that way.

Caravan and camper type places have the correct chargers that work automatically on hook-up, but they cost a bit. Look out for someone breaking a Westfalia camper, they had one as standard, so that is another source.

What rating is your L batt?
You need a charger that will give a charging current of about 1/10 th of the rateing

ie 45Ahr needs about 4.5 A
