Hi everyone ,im new to this Syncro thing but am very interested .I own a 90 Defender which i use as my day to day transport as well as towing and
as part of my hobbys which are shooting and off road trials ,i also do a lot of camping which leads me to wonder would a syncro be a better option for me ,is it a fair comparison. What do you think?
Thanks Kenny.

I think you should come out on a run and see how they compare to your 90 in similar conditions..
But..
As far as camping goes.. A syncro camper cant be beat even by a 110... there is so much more room..

They are pretty good offrad too.... :D but we are all biased here...

if your doing rtv trials then stick with your 90,syncros have crap approach angles, crap departure angles, and crap ramp over ability, the gearings crap also when decent tyres are fitted,as a green lane car then their brilliant, fast, nimble, agile but once pushed the limits are soon reached,i know you can modify your syncro to be better but then if you modify a 90 itll be awesome, ive got a modified jeep cj7 running 35's and wouldnt dream of putting my syncro pick up in the same situations,as a general all rounder itll be fine but dont expect to win many trials trophy's as a well driven suzuki or 90 will better it,cj. ps,if you have taken part in the exmoor challenge over the last 4 years then you will probally have been recovered by one.

comfort, space, speed (on some ), camper conversions, safety, good handling on road and off. Possibly not the "best" in any department but its a fantastic all round package not easily found in any other vehicle for the price.

Hows about a volvo 303?

pinz prices start at double your syncro prices, and on road I am told apart from being slow handle like a loaf of bread and in a off centre frontal impact there is virtually no protection at all, off road however, OH yes..... 6X6 fun! with a radio box on back can pass for a camper. Dont forget Unimog, and MAN do some beasts, how deep are your pockets?

Yep.. deep pockets and what are you actually going to use it for...???

A syncro makes for a great allround vehicle... I am glad I bought my syncro doka as it was a choice between that or a 404 Unimog... I have just been driving the doka for 15k km since July.. (as the car was off the road) and wouldnt have done that in the 404...

We like Unimogs and Pinz's on here and a lot of us would have one if we could afford/justify it

If you can afford (money and space) to have a "toy" or camper that is parked 10 months of the year and want to go offroad extreme, then a Pinx or Unimog might fit the bill well... but if you want to be able to "use" it every week then a syncro makes for an excelent compromise...

ive owned 3 unimogs 2x404,1xU600 and a volvo laplander (valp) great cars off road but not great on,you cant use a 404 as a camping car really unless you own a fuel company, and the volvo was too small, the other thing is syncro dont make good tow cars, not enough tow weight and not enough power compared to others,cj

Oh no, more choices now i really dont know what i want , how is the 303 and the pinz for relibility ,i have never seen a 303 is it about the same size as a LR 101 .i know it is a lot of of money(about £10,000 is my budget)but it would be well used but only for 6 months as i work off shore. Is there anything to separate them in terms of cost ,ability and quality. Thanks for your help and patients.

Well used for 6 months? doing what? that will be the cruncher...
How do you intend to use it?
As said, as an every day vehicle, the Syncro cant be beat.. 10k should get you a good one with some good upgrades depending on what you want..... but 6 months in Africa, might dictate a Unimog.. and 10k wont get you much of an expedition type one of those....
