Sliding door handle broke door won't close shut

We've just arrived in sunny Peak District (not sunny) ..chucking it down!
Went to open side door, handle broke ,door opened..well at least we can unpack and pitch awning...Now it won't shut. latch not moving to engage in striker plate... help !

You do know that the door lock is at the rear end of the sliding door?!

Sorted...took latch off door,readjusted to correct position...bingo! Door now closes.Only problem now handle is definitely broken.Also looks like mechanism not working to move rod..Adapt and overcome.Disconnect rod.Attached thin piece of rope to large spring to release door from inside...so all I need now is a new handle and mechanism...Phew! Happy Camper

Nothing worse than camping in the middle of nowhere with a door you can't shut, pitch black outside, fast asleep under your duvet when at 3am you hear the door open really slowly......
