You need to talk to Aidan Talbot. He knows more about gearboxes on these vans than anyone else.

I wonder why you bought a 5 speed box - why not a 4 speed petrol box - no changing of linkages? Someone else here should be able to tell you the differences in the setup of the linkages for 4 and 5 speed gear levers etc.
Can't help with this dealer either - what are you after exactly?

I am not reluctant to sell parts but I will only sell good used parts that I would be prepared to fit myself and warrant and I like all the others who work on these boxes are struggling for good core 5 speeds that can either be rebuilt or which will yield good useable parts; new parts are available but they are not cheap; I have new 3rd gears in stock but haven't got standard 5 speed 2nd gears in stock at present but will get some in as I have no good used ones, I do have new S 5 speed 2nd gears in stock (ASM, ASS etc..) but strangely they don't get as battered because the ratio is slightly longer so you don't pull away in 2nd being lazy or not using the dog leg and you hold first longer before changing up so you have a little more momentum and don't rush the shift as much, especially into roundabout and when cold which is when most of the damage occurs; with the 5 speed shift being 'special' when worn it is a hinderance and much harder to live with than the 4 speed so partly hence the more mullered 5 speeds
as oldie suggested a petrol 4 speed box would give suitable ratios and it only requires the diesel bellhousing and input shaft swapping over, fit a new seal and check the oil thrower whilst you or your garage are doing the swap, new circlip everytime for the input shaft, as the meercat says....
ABD 4 speed petrol box is most common from 1.9DG vans and less likely to be worthless bag of spanners second hand, it still might be but you stand a better chance than finding a good 5 speed box, though they do exist occasionally

My sub-1000 mile AJT rebuilt DW 5-speed is going up in value by the day!
I just need to track down a UN-1 for sensible money...

in my last blog i said thst some dealers where reluctant to supply gearbox parts this was aimed at another supplier and not Aiden Talbot who was out of stock at the time
Aiden has emailed my self has he now has the parts in stock and i have found him very helpfull
in the mean time i have bought another second hand box with a reverse problem so i have married the two boxes hoping to get one good one out of the pair i will post the results of the test drive in due course mean while i am building a pile of serviceable old units lol for rebuilding in the future
