Hi,
Exhaust is very sooty....Is this a too rich or too lean mixture ? If so what needs to be done to adjust it...
Thanks, Richard

Sooty deposits are an indicator of unburnt fuel and a rich running engine, check your spark plugs to see if they are black as this can also be a good indicator. If this is a recent thing and no one has messed with your carb settings then something could be wrong with your air intake, check air filter is clean. If not then the mixture could be wrong, however I wouldnt start messing with the mixture screw without an exhaust gas analyzer as things could get worse. If the engine is running to rich I would get it tuned right as not only would it save you fuel it would also save engine probs.
