Hi guys, have been pulling out the interior on my van today so I can replace the kitchen worktop, as usual uncovered lots of bodge work and some dodgy looking wood and holes.

Hoping you can answer two things -
Is the floor panel made of fibreglass sat on metal?, if you look at my picture it looks like the fibres are sticking out?

Do you have to vent the floor pan by the butane bottle? It's obviously been letting moisture in and rotting the wood, do I actually have to have the hole?

Can't comment on the floor however that hole by the gas bottle is very important as gas is heavier than air so if any leaks out it will fall out that hole rather than build up in the van. There should be a similar hole under any other gas appliance as well.

Looks like the floor may have been bodged in the past with fibreglass, there's probably a great big hole there where the metal floor should be.

Ok just need to make the hole neater and now find out what's under that fibreglass, this should be fun

Anyone know where you can get the proper hole grommet from?

weld it up, you only need a 1" dia hole within each appliance/bottle enclosure, there is a deflector plate that you can make and fit under so most of the splash etc stays away and a mesh to stop big creepies like mice

You can get things called "gas drop out vents" but theg are usually about 50 or 60mm in dia.

Mine's got a bit of top hat section over the gas drop holes - three or four inches wide, similar length, half an inch deep, riveted to the underside of the floor with the gaps facing side to side (rather than fore and aft, which would be stupid!).

yes, you only really need a 1" hole, and as cj says a 'U' shaped bit of tin with lips and fitted fore/aft will stop most water etc, it only has to be say a 1/4" clearance below the floor hole

So it's like a U shape with the hole pointing towards the sides so water hits the metal and deflects away?

Nope - no contradiction. I said the gaps should be side-to-side, MM said the lips should be fore-and-aft. Same thing, and just as you've described.

So now have had the whole interior and floorboards out, it looks like the floor is metalwork then covered in a fibrous type filler material that makes the floor!
