Was driving for the first time in a while after MOT and noticed when I switched off the heat from the vents that the van overheated till I switched it back?
Had new larger rad from brickworks and recon engine.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Garry

Air lock in rad pipes and or stat not opening
Cab heater circuit flows when stat shut
try bleeding it again and check rad gets hot top to bottom and return pipe to thermostat gets hot too

Just remembered it had a blockage before the new radiator was put in and i was told that the old radiator and pipes might have some rubbish in them. I looked in the coolant and it looks a little merky even though it was flushed and new coolent added 6mish ago?.
I will check it in the morning, it could be the light.
Is there a possibility that there is something in the system?

Ordered some G12+ Purple From GSF for £39 for 6x 1.5l bottles.
Im going to drain the van as it looks a little merky.
The Antifreeze in there looks pink and i had topped up with water in the past and have only done about 2 miles in the last 6m so its prob a god time to clear it out.
If i want to completely drain it in case there is a different type of antifreeze in it whats the best way?
cheers,
G

Disconnect the lowest coolant connection you can find and drain it all.
Shove a hosepipe in, and flush it all through. Reconnect the hose.
Refill it with plain water, bleed it, run it up to fan-kicking-in temperature. Drain again. If it's not particularly clear, refill etc until it is.

If you are draining it remove and test thermostat in a pan of water brought to the boil
or better still get a new quality one from brickwerks to eliminate the stat being the blockage

Good post.
I'd even do this a few times

It's probably worth disconnecting from a few places - rad, coolant tower, big 'stat-to-pump pipe - and flushing from each. Itchy's comment re: 'stat is a good one, too. I think I'd just chuck a 'stat in as a matter of course.

Thanks guys,
I have ordered a stat from BW as suggested. I just noticed that there is now an oil leak on right side so will be taking back to elite first and doing the stat and flush when it comes back. Should not be giving me this trouble as ive only done about 500 miles since new engine and after last issue i had a BW larger radiator fitted in June last year.

I'm saying nothing at all.
