Coolant Temp Sensor

Hi all haven't been on for a while. I have a 1987 1.9DG WBX
Wondering if you can help me with a problem I'm having. My temp gauge is showing no sign of life although the red led flashes as normal on start up. I've located the coolant temp sensor but I don't seem to be able to disconnect the plug/wires off the sensor in order to test the wiring. Does it have to be manipulated in some way or should it just pull off?
I presume the spring clip holds the sensor itself in place? Not sure if I've caused it but coolant is dripping slightly from the sensor so presume I need to replace this now, is this the one I need?

Thanks in anticipation :ok

Yes that looks right compared with my 88 van, there is also a rectangular plug version, if I remember there is a tab needs squeezing in, pull the boot back and it's easier to see

Never got as far as testing it. Took out sender with plug connected as was unable to separate them in situ and discovered broken wire in plug. New sender and spade connectors fixed the problem.
