Adding oil/coolant (what device do you use)

OK - this is what I use to get oil and/or coolant from the bottle you buy it in into either the oil 'tube' or the coolant tank.
As both are mounted at a horizontal angle they always seem like a real pain to use without spilling everywhere - what good ideas have people has to get round this (especially when out and about)

FWIW - funnels always seemed to be worse than useless?!?

Thin cardboard rolled up will do it too - as will some small drinks containers with base cut off. The trouble with funnels and some other methods is that you then have to find somewhere to put the oily implement afterwards. Cardboard seems to be my favourite lately.

One of those funnels with the screw on nozzle thing for the oil, I take it you know the oil filler has an extension piece to it?

Yeah - I managed to avoid the embarrassment of not figuring that out!!
But all that does is extend the 'near' horizontal tube out a bit - in my opinion you still need something else to help with getting oil from the bottle to the filler tube .....

Agreed, you can't add oil or coolant without a funnel of some sort.
never understood why they didn't just have a cap on the oil brather tower for oil.

I assume so you don't have to empty the contents of the back every time to top up?

This was the first time you had no direct access to the engine bay so maybe VW were trying to provide a similar way.

For my coolant I use a sports drink bottle with ready mixed water and anti freeze, just squeeze into the tank.

I assume they didn't design it to leak so much coolant or use lots of oil so how often would you need to fill up?
