My van is a 2 litre Aircooled petrol van.

up in the back corner of both front wheel arches is a tank, which looks for all the world like either a header tank, or a washer bottle:

Here is a picture of where I have moved the tank down to weld the metalwork back together on the passenger side:


However, there does not seem to be a way of filling it, which rules out washer bottle, and this is an Aircooled van, which rather rules out a header tank..

so what are these tanks?

Fuel tank expansion tanks.

I will will redouble my efforts to attempt not to puncture them with the grinder/welder.....

Good time to check condition of flexy pipes.

Be careful with the 'spigots' that the flexis fit onto they will and do break easy.

Thanks for the tips chaps, I will indeed (carefully) renew the fuel pipes while I am there...
