I have a Fiamma roof vent to put in. The hole is already there, complete with wooden frame, the last vent flew off on the motorway!
Should I use sikkaflex to seal it?

P.s. I have no idea what Im doing i've never done it before!!

Thanks Emma

Sikaflex is for bonding - it's incredibly strong. If you bond it on with this, that's it, there's no getting it off again.

If it's purely sealing you want there is cheaper and easier to use sealants available. A silicon sealant for example :ok

Sika has a wide spectrum of products, there are some that mainly for sealing and some others mainly for bonding. Different strength for different usage but they all bonding the surfaces if applied correct.
Eg.: "Sikaflex-227" is an overspayable sealer "Sikaflex-521 UV" is an UV resistant sealer with higher adhesive characteristic while "Sikaflex-252" and "Sikaflex-552 AT" are high strength elastic adhesives.

But as said above, some cheaper solutions are also available. The main advantage is UV resistance that you need.

The stuff people are usually referring to is Sikaflex 512, and to be honest there's no point in using anything else other than that for either the bonding or the sealing as it works so well. And it's easy enough to get hold of - you can buy it off the shelf at Go Outdoors for example. Put a continuous bead on the roof to bed the skylight into, and then screw it down with the included fixings as per the instructions. Then run a thin bead at the junction between the outside edge of the skylight and the roof and tool it smooth. Top tip - let the Sikaflex warm up on the radiator before you use it as it is easier to squeeze it out. Also, make sure you check the 'use by' date on the tube before you buy it - it only has a shelf life of around twelve months.

Really appreciate the speedy replies - thank you all :)

I've used Sikkaflex before, on a van, but can't remember what for?!

I use sika flex all the time for work - love their products. My input would be to state the obvious (but often overlooked), thoroughly clean the two surfaces that you are bonding. That's it, nothing else to add...
