Sudden loss of power after stalling the van

I am not expecting an exact answer but thought I'd ask anyway.... So yesterday I stalled the van (my fault) on a hill. Restarted straightaway but since then I have a loss of power from third gear upwards. Any ideas? Dislodged something maybe?

Did you previously have any flat spots or even the odd backfire?

No, she was running absolutely flawlessly up until I stalled her.

Is it a lack of "power", or is the engine revving up ok in the higher gears but the van is just not going as fast as it should (thinking slipping clutch here).

I see what you mean. Revs ok. Just feels like she's not pulling as she should.

Hi, noticed you have injection, although not experienced with the t25 injection system I would be checking the cabling from the lambda sensor, as your symptoms are associated with a failing sensor, if your stall gave it a sudden jump.

Good point. I will have a look. Lambda sensor though??

Sounds like a clutch problem to me, with your handbrake fully ON!!! Start her up,put her in 4th and slowly release the clutch, your van should stall if not then your clutch is more than likely fried.

Agreed. Sounds like the clutch is a prime candidate. Chances are it was on it's way out when you stalled and the additional shock from that has finished it off.
If it does turn out to be clutch then, speaking from bitter experience, change your input spigot shaft bearing at the same time as the clutch gets done.

Thanks for the tips (and bad news, you fiends). Will test pulling away in 4th this eve. Is that the most definitive test I can do easily for the clutch?

Googling around doesn't yield a definitive test, just some indicative tests.
Trying to pull away in top gear with the handbrake on is one commonly mentioned, as above - if the engine stalls straight away this indicates that the clutch is likely to good.
The other is to get the car running at 30mph, the put it into top gear and accelerate reasonably hard. If the revs go up but the speed takes some time to pick up that also indicates clutch wear - which sounds like what you've been experiencing.
Worth bearing in mind though that the chances are that any of these tests will wear your clutch even more, and also that a well worn clutch might still seem okay, but then fail within a couple of months.
Good luck with it.

Thanks Clift, the all makes a lot of sense. I'll report back tonight.

So I tried to pull away in 4th with the handbrake on, revs pretty high and she stalled when my foot was almost off the clutch. Good or bad? I can't decide.

Uneducated guess, clutch may be knocked.
