Fitting a tachometer depends on which engine you have.
VW fitted an accurate water temp gauge at the factory.
Which oil gauge do you want, temperature or pressure?

Ok, go to demon tweeks you'll be able to get a good rev counter there.
There are some nice TIM gauges. For petrol engines.
The instructions to fit it are easy to follow.

Here's mine
As for the oil pressure, that's the same shop.
You need to decide if you want an accurate mechanical gauge or an electronic one.

Early vans don't have the signal you need from the coil pre-wired up to the instruments, late ones are much easier as they do. A search here will find all the details. Hth, bri

Stick it here and you don't need to drill holes as you can use the speaker grill holes for fixing and wires
52mm guages can have the pod stuck on with self adhesive pads but the larger ones need bolting on

Kev whats ths night time illumination like on yours? Mine is rubbish wondering if some of the lamps have failed?

The illumination is very good, but then it's not a 52 mm gauge.
It also dims with the dimmer.

Yes it does, an optical illusion I think makes yours look smaller.
It's been there a long time and I have forgotten how many bulbs are in it, or the wattage.
It's never been wanting or overly bright.

It's braver yes but actually lower than the pic looks at 5k, but actually I don't go past 4k often and never to 5k

Red needle is on the air fuel guage which I must change because its the most annoying colour changing permanent LED backlight ( not mentioned in the ad), it had a smoked front which is rubbish in the sun. I changed it to clear by prising the bezel off and cutting a disc from a clear presentation packing box window from something. The LED is now blinding at night. So be warned never buy a smoked guage no matter how cheap it is.

the 52mm pod is TIM, looks better than the other style IMO which almost all other 52mm pods are.

As for wiring I reccomend WAGO connectors with the orange levers, open the lever and poke a stripped wire in, close lever, you can get 2, 3 and 5, all pins connect together, simple quick and you can remove stuff quickly for fault finding or if you add extra or remove later. Makes cutting into wiring quick neat easy and reliable, get them from ebay.

found out today why the night time illumination was rubbish

this is a piece of self adhesive foil that should be stuck to the pod to help reflection, the factory didn't peel the backing off and stick it on so it's curled up and shielding one lamp

Like all modern electronics. Quality control check = user.
