turbo like for like?

Hi folks, I've got a 1.9tdi engine in my t25 and the turbo appears to be on the way out. It's a garret t15 0281457010, 454085-1. question is I'm looking for a recon turbo and does it have to be exact match with all part number or is there a list of turbos that will fit? Sorry for vagueness as obviously I'm no mechanic just trying to keep the van on the road
