Lack of power

Hi all

I'm after some advice please.

I adjusted the tappets on my 2L cu Aircooled, 1.5 turns from touching. Started the engine afterwards and it started on the button.

I also adjusted the timing 5deg after TDC. Went to start her up and she cranked over several times before finally spluttering into life. She idled fine so went for a test drive and it had a severe lack of power, really struggling.

Also to note, as per a previous post I fitted a new hall sender yesterday, I made sure the peg underneath engaged with the vac advance arm. Not sure if this is relevant.

Any ideas? Would tweaking the timing a few degrees improve things?

Cheers
Myles

Also just to confirm, all vac hoses connected correctly and ht leads in the correct order.

I moved the timing back to TDC and now the van is running fine. Is the Haynes figure of 4-6deg ATDC incorrect or is it indicative of a tired worn engine?

5 atdc is right afaik do you have an idle stabilisisor, cranccase breather?

What happens to the timing above idle?
The 5-6' ATDC is right. If you pull off the vac retard tube at idle the timing mark should move a few degrees before TDC.
Try opening the throttle slowly and the timing mark should get to 26-28' BTDC around 3000 RPM. If the mechanical advance is sticking you won't have any power above 1000 RPM.

Hi all

I didn't realise you had to remove the crankcase breather, first time I've read that.
No idle stabiliser, plugs are joined together.

Going to have another look at the timing. Strange how it drastically lacked power at 5 ATDC, but after moving back to TDC it preformed fine on a test drive.
