Oil cooler?

I recently bought a 1989 T3/T25 Calirfornia Westfalia 1.6 TD.

I was advised by T3 expert to install an 'oil cooler' on the basis they were not fitted with them, and over heating oil can be a problem on long summer trips.

Does anyone have a view on this, or have some experience of overheatng oil (wihtout a cooler) or had a cooler retro-fitted - with success or problems?

Thanks

Fitting an oil cooler to your engine is one of the most sensible things you can do.
Done right it can improve the life of it immensely.
