Xenon White Interior Lights

I have changed the interior "festoon" light bulbs for exact replacement LED lights (8 LEDs 41mm length). What a huge difference they make - see below. You can get these from eBAY - check out seller: jzlz1996

These are also low power, longer life and run cool so much better for than the originals.

Switch to turn on ALL the interior lights at once

I also added a simple toggle switch to the right hand side of the steering column on the lower vertical dashboard area and connected it to the interior light switch on the driver's door. The wiring is simple - when the door is opened the button switch connects the feed wire to the ground (-ve). So the switch is wired in parallel with the door switch - one side is connected to ground (-ve) and the other to the same wire that goes to the door switch. Hey Presto! when the toggle switch is closed the lights come on! Great for travelling with a family!

USEFUL TIP : When removing the door switch, the wire connected to it will slip off and disappear into the door pillar. Don't worry - put your hand up under the dashboard and gently pull each wire - one of them is the wire that has just done a disappearing act. Extract the wire and chop off the connector - you can then make a joint with the bare wire and two new wires: one to go to the new toggle switch and the other to the original door switch. To get the second wire threaded back to the switch, I used a short piece of springy curtain rail (the white coated spiral wire type) which I poked up into the door post and then pulled down under the dashboard. I used this to pull a longer piece of wire through to act as a feedwire for the new door switch wire. A bit of electrical tape to tape the wire onto the feedwire, pull it back through, connect to the door switch and screw back. job done !

Why can't you just turn the light on using the switch on the light itself?

.. reason for this changoever

The toggle switch controls ALL the internal lights and I have small children strapped into car seats so they can't reach the switch on the lights. Also it means I can switch off all lights again with a simple flick of the toggle switch.

Yes I could also open the driver's door - but do you really want to do this when travelling at 65 mph or in the winter when it is minus 6 out there!!

Fair play, i didn't realise that all the lights came on using the same switch.
A jolly fine idea.

Has anybody tried the Tail, Tail/Stop, Indicator LED bulbs? This could be the answer for my trailer lights which are always blowing.

Following the last comment, of course you can install festoon lights with more LED's ... as long as the space allows.

Another idea is to add one of the 12 volt LED inspection lamps -

If installed in such a way that it could be removed for use in the workshop then it would double up as a workshop inspection lamp too.

Or just install an LED camper light... or why not go the whole hog .. it's Christmas after all!! :D

Merry Christmas!
