Strange noise from Back as The wheels on the bus goes round

Hi all,
It's been a while, well a month at least.
All has been good in the world of Crazy horse, until...... I was driving home last night and I started hearing a strange noise from the back of the van, coming from around the passenger rear tyre. Only noticed it when I was coming to a junction.
I am not very technical, and it can only be described as a high pitch sequel, happens as the wheel goes round so it's not constant, happens on any kind of road. Sounds noisy from inside the cab, but when I open the window, WOW, its really bloody noisy.
Any opinions, should I panic??
muchos gracias

Whatever it is is likely to be hot to the touch afterwards. Stuck/worn brake shoe? Check wheel bearings, but I suspect it'll be brake drum area unless you've got a squealing water pump or belt.

It could be a small stone stuck between the drum and the backplate, that can make a heck of a noise.

Clearly you have been upsetting some of the little folk that keep your van tip top.
Get this manual, it'll help.

Had exactly the same sounding thing on my syncro. As soon as it is making the noise chock it up on the jack and rotate the wheel by had. Mine was intermittent then noisy as heck. Problem was in the brake drum. The bit that holds the light weight retaining spring had broken an eventually a piece of metal was wedged between the drum and the shoe. Was easy to fix. Same as someone suggested with the stone
If the noise is there take the wheel off remove the flat headed screws that hold the drum on. You will need to hit it quite hard to loosen it take the drum off and have a gander inside.
Watch this but don't take out the split pin or the big nut off, Jed shows how to get the drum off.
