Ok my son's Seat Inca van has the lovely 1Y engine, runs lovely once started (starts right away with a bit of easy start or when warm) but is getting it started. There is some issue with the glow plugs, the glow light flashes when the ignition is switched on. So far to date we have replaced the following
*Glow plug relay
*The big relay which supposedly controls stuff to the plugs and pump
*All the fuses including the big 50 amp glow plug fuse

Have put the VAGcom on it and got the following issues
from the immobiliser circuit
01176 - Key unauthorized - intermittent
00546

From diesel pump
01168 Idle speed boost valve (n177) 31-10 open or short to ground intermittent
01266 Glow plug relay
01050 Glow plug monitoring

Could it be an issue with the rail or plugs? (which also have been changed before this issue)

i have a 1y in my daily snotter and the glow plug module has packed up so i have simply given a direct feed to the plug rail via a push switch in the dash, works 100% over this last cold spell
maybe worth tring a feed from battery + to one of the plugs when cold

Well that worked well so all wired in and will be using it like that for the time being.
