Hi, there's a bit of rust washing out from the 'allen key' headed screws on the big bumpers front and back. It looks like it's probably the thread. My initial reaction is to unscrew them, soak them in something (?) to remove the rust, spray prime and then screw back on.

Firstly, any thoughts on this approach? And secondly, would spray priming them make them difficult to screw back on and would screwing them back on remove the primer?

Primer wont help.

It's rusting because the screws are ferrous, change them for a stainless steel version, smother them in oil to offer some sort of protection for the hole.
Or put a new bolt in and smoother in grease/silicon etc to stop the air and water getting to it.

Sound advice thanks. I havent actually removed them yet so not sure how standard the screws are and whether I can source replacements from screwfix?? Or if i need to source from a vw specialist?

They will be a standard metric thread and should be really sourced.
Get the wd40 and give them a squirt ASAP, allow to soak over night and reapply
