I need to have a new clutch fitted to my 1987 1900 petrol DG.

Is there a particular supplier that you would recommend with regard to quality of the kit. I've had a look at the usual sources and prices are pretty much the same. I am quite happy to pay a bit more for better quality.

for a wbx I'd say the Sachs is best quality, personally I think the LUK and it's derivatives (that's most of the other boxes eg QH) is pants, the release bearing is not as well made and the clutch centre has been simplified from the original design, though they work and most vans on here probably have a LUK clutch fitted, and yes LUK were one of VW's original suppliers; I still think Sachs is best and gives best pedal feel and operating life
Brickwerks or eurocarparts would be my preferred suppliers for that usually

And the cheapskate way is to just buy a friction plate every other clutch change providing pressure plate looks good. I've done that for 29 years but you do need to keep tabs on what was fitted and when. Also condition of release bearing needs to be checked. I'm old-school though rather than the modern f'itter. These days everyone changes the lot regardless (garages can't afford not to) so they don't have to drop gearbox again but if you know what you're doing....

Had to get it purchased today so went with VWHeritage.

Another vote here for SACHS ......

VW Heritage are a good company...probably not the cheapest.
under £90.00 for SACHS 3 parts.
