Wiring light switch

Can anyone help me with a wiring situation... I have had no sidelights and as a result no fog lights. I have checked and sorted the fuses and cleaned up the earth crown and then decided to check the light switch itself... it appears that two of the wires have been cut off at the switch (I have added some pics below) I am no electrician and have not got a clue as to what the wires are for and where they go but I am guessing this is why I have no side lights, I have main beam and everything else...I am confused...there was just the connectors there which I have pulled out..

From the look of those pics and the electrical tape on those wires your switch has had a lot of changes made to it.

It's hard to tell from the pic but those two terminals that you think were cut look to be 'X' and '56' - which is the headlight power in and headlight power out - so if they are not there then it seems that your switch has been butchered to make the headlights work (at the expense of the sidelights).

Looks like you might need to find someone with some knowledge of van wiring to go in there, have a hunt around and figure out what has been done?!??
(My guess is that the light switch stopped working on the headlight setting so someone hacked it so the headlights work on the sidelight setting!!)

Thanks for your help that makes sense because I do have main beam and to be honest yes the van has had major electric butchering. Have to get someone on the case...

Thanks
