TYPE 4 COOLING TINS REMOVAL WITH ENGINE IN PLACE?

Hi guys,

My cooling tins on my Type 4 engine are looking tatty and the push rod tube covers have practically disintegrated . I know how important cooling is and that the cooling tins play a huge roll in this. Would ideally like to remove all the tins, carry out a refub and replace all the rotten parts.

Is it possible to remove all of the engine tins when the engine is in place ?

Many thanks

Mark

I've previously had two air-cooled T25s. I would say that pulling the engine is so straightforward that it makes sense to do that rather than mess around trying to get the tinware off in situ. If your tinware is so rotten then the fasteners are likely to be hard work to get off anyway and so that makes it even more sensible to pull the engine and get the best access possible.

Good luck with it!

Yes you can remove all tin with engine in place. I had a very steep drive at my old house so removed all with engine in place, bit fiddly mind you.
